Roots.

Hey guys! It's been a while. Not studying for my boards has kept me quite busy, but couldn't keep me away for long!

Before we develop a taste for caviar and champagne, there's always food that we've grown up having. Food that we love. Food that you don't pay more than 50 bucks for. Food that our parents had when they went to college. Yeah... Imagine that! There's this tiny place called Prakash in Shivaji Park.
Let me give you a few reasons to go there:

  • You share a table with complete strangers cause there just isn't enough place for one table per group. So you sit next to or opposite people you've never seen before in your life and who find absolutely nothing weird in sitting next to a group of giggling teens :P

  • Then ofcourse, if you're tight on a budget, a meal for two really wont cost you more than a 100 bucks. Yes. I'm serious.
  • The service is pretty brilliant. Shirts and shorts clad waiters bustle around the small restaurant with utmost efficiency. If you know Marathi, great! If you don't, take a Marathi friend along with you to make you feel more at home.
  • Most cheap food ends up making us sick and eating bland food at home, but not this joint! Contrary to what elitists think, this place is pretty clean and hey! My parents ate here so it really can't be that bad :P
  • Lastly, go to this place for its simplicity and really yummy Maharashtrian snacks. My favs are the Misal, Sabudana Vada and Piyush. All costs around 30 bucks.

That's right guys, don't ever forget your roots. Don't ever forget what got you to the top and what made you who you are. Don't let the glitz and glamour that you finally achieve ever get so blinding that you can't see the path that got you there. And lastly, good food isn't always found in the swankiest places. Don't forget the simple pleasures while enjoying the exotic ones :)

xoxo
